Northallerton bonfire partnership pays tribute to support from local councils and business

The Northallerton Bonfire & Fireworks Partnership, which includes Simon Bailes of Simon Bailes Peugeot, the Mayor of Northallerton, STAR Radio and Northallerton fire crews has recognised the contribution of Brompton Town Council, Northallerton Town Council and Romanby Parish Council to making the annual event such a success.

Although donations are collected at the event by volunteers, without this additional support the Partnership would not be able to deliver such a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display, in a safe and controlled environment suitable for all the family, at the Applegarth each year.

The event was originally organised by fire-fighters from Northallerton fire station but due to increased demand from the general public, and the fact that it has become a ‘must see’ event in everyone’s calendar; it now requires greater resources, additional facilities and better entertainment for the whole family.

Group Manager David Pitt from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: “There is a lot of hard work that goes into planning and organising this event and without a collaborative approach it simply wouldn’t happen. I am extremely grateful therefore, for the continued commitment and tireless efforts of the Bonfire Partnership and the local councils.

“The Partnership aim for this year is to deliver the best possible family focused event for people living in and around Northallerton. The group hopes to entice café owners, pub landlords and shopkeepers to be more involved in the event to make it a spectacular night out that is inclusive of everything Northallerton High Street has to offer.”

Managing director of Simon Bailes Peugeot, Simon Bailes, said: “We’re thrilled to be involved with this event again and with the support continually given by the councils to ensure it is a fantastic occasion.

“Public displays really do reduce the number of easily avoidable accidents that happen at home-hosted events.

“This display is not only a free, family-friendly show, but also gives local people the opportunity to come together and creates a real sense of community cohesion.

“We hope the whole town will turn out to enjoy this event.”
