ROLL-OUT OF AUTONOMOUS (SELF-DRIVE) CARS ANNOUNCED

Added: 26 June 2017

Peugeot’s parent company, Groupe PSA, has unveiled the roll-out of the next generation of cars – ones that can drive themselves.

Not so long ago, this would have sounded like a something from a science fiction film, but ‘driverless’ cars becoming the norm is just around the corner.

Early driving assistance functions already are available on the latest Peugeot, Citroën and DS models.

Now the company is to rollout automated driving functions starting next year.

And from 2020 onwards, new and progressively autonomous functions will offer drivers the possibility of delegating driving to the vehicle without supervision.

The emphasis, naturally, is on safety, reliability and driver experience as the company accelerates its Autonomous Vehicle for All (AVA) programme.

To mark the launch of this technological milestone, the group welcomed more than 200 guests – made up of journalists, bloggers, investors, institution representatives and the general public – to an event in Paris showcasing the latest innovations.

The developments will allow the driver to experience their journey differently, without constraints and fatigue, especially in monotonous driving situations. The technology will be accessible to all thanks to simple and intuitive technology.

To meet these challenges, Groupe PSA is developing a new electronic architecture (NEA) – in short, the car’s central nervous system – that guarantees safe operation in all situations, passenger safety and data security. The NEA is ingenious thanks to its modularity and scalability.

It’s exciting times in the car industry and we, at Simon Bailes Peugeot, look forward to welcoming these hi-tech vehicles to our dealership in the not too distant future.
